Rachel promotes proper emotional care as much as they do physical care. A good way to get emotional care is through support groups. One special support group, HEAL, “Helping Endure InfAnt Loss” is specifically designed for “the smallest loss…the biggest grief.”

HEAL is a support group of Florida Hospital for parents who have suffered a miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death. Talking with others experiencing this same unique loss can help you deal with your grief, loneliness, helplessness and sense of guilt. Sharing your thoughts and experiences with those who really understand how you feel can help you through some of your difficulties and answer some of your questions. HEAL provides comfort and information alike.

The support group meets in seven sessions under the direction of qualified counselors. There is no charge, and both partners are encouraged to attend.

Discussion topics include:

  • The uniqueness of infant loss
  • The grief process
  • The marital relationship
  • Grief from a mother’s view and grief from a father’s view
  • Response from family and friends; a look at support systems
  • Physician’s presentation
  • Future pregnancies, infertility, self-esteem
  • Closure and evaluation
